Get creative: how to design with bathroom tiles

Tiling is not only a utilitarian option for your bathroom, thanks to its durability, low maintenance and water resistance, but can also be a design statement adding style and elegance when you play with colour, finish and scale in your tiles.

Dazzle with mosaics

Mosaics can look stunning in a bathroom, adding visual interest in the form of borders, splashbacks or even mosaic murals. To avoid mosaics looking too busy, balance by pairing with a larger neutral tile to let the mosaic really dazzle.

Pair patterns with plain

For this look to really work, keep the patterned tile as an accent either on the floor or a feature wall. A geometrically patterned floor tile will really sing when set alongside a simple white tile that provides a light enhancing and neutral background. For a variation, choose the same shape of tile but in two contrasting colours for wall and floor.

Play with scale

Take a small mosaic in an unusual geometric shape - for example hexagonal - then match with a medium-sized hexagonal wall tile and a large oblong floor tile. Or play with small, medium and large tiles in the same shape but different shades. Keep the colour palette tone on tone or monochrome for a clever and classy look.

Try a matte finish

The muted palette of natural stone is the perfect neutral when you choose tiles with a matte finish. You can offset with a punchier shiny ceramic tile or pair with a different texture, for example a rich wood floor or a bare brick wall.

Make a feature of grout lines

For a subtle finish, keep the grout lines the same colour as your tiles. For a high-contrast impact, use a dark grey or black grout with a white tile. You'll need to make sure that your tiles are immaculately and professionally laid to pull this look off - at Woodstone Bathrooms we can provide the right craftsman for the job.
