The latest bathroom tile trends

If you're thinking of refurbishing your tired tiles and worn-out fixtures, there are several strong trends in bathroom design to inspire you. From stylish and classic black and white to graphic grids of bold mosaic, current tile trends will lend excitement, drama and glamour to your makeover.

Black and white

The classic combination that plays off warm and cool, dark and light, black and white chequerboard tiling is more popular than ever for your bathroom. Or team black with purple for a bathroom that simply oozes drama and opulence. Or team your black and white with a grey or lavender undertone for a softly contemporary twist.

Graphic grids

Use mosaics in bold grid patterns for a strong style statement. Or choose a vivid shade of mosaic - peacock blues, turquoises and greens are on-trend - and offset this with cool white ceramics. Mosaics also provide a restrained and graphic contrast when used sparingly to offset a white tile.

Go big and bold

Large format tiles have been a trend for a while, and for good reason. They give a beautifully seamless finish, particularly in natural stones or faux marble - another on-trend material - thanks to the smooth, sleek look of fewer grout lines.

Wood

Wood is a huge trend in modern bathrooms. Choose reclaimed wood wall tiles which surprise because of their unexpectedness and lend a modern, organic vibe, or go for faux wood ceramic floor tiles that offer the beauty of wood flooring with the durability of ceramic tile.

Look east

Take inspiration from the jewel-like colours and gently curving, undulating shapes that seem to ripple over your walls. Morocco tiling is a key inspiration for this look.

Tactile texture

The matte, honed finish is having a moment. More understated and elegant than the shine and twinkle of mosaic, use matte textures to warm up a contemporary design or enhance a more traditional scheme. Play with dimensions too by using tactile raised cobblestone effect tiles for a 3D effect.

Classic white

The bathroom look that never dates. Play with accessories, fittings and tiling patterns for a modern look.
